A data collection method that aims to assess the behaviors and psychological processes of study participants in their everyday lives. This is achieved by continuously collecting data of interest as study participants go about their daily lives. Ecological momentary assessment can include asking participants to complete surveys multiple times a day on their mobile devices, having them wear devices that record data, tracking the locations of their mobile devices, having participants’ mobile devices record sound or light levels in their vicinity, and other similar data collection methods.
