Association between anxiety status and hydration status in Spanish university students
Relationship between anxiety and hydration levels
Anxiety disorders are highly prevalent among young university students, yet available management strategies often rely on anxiolytic substances. Since water is essential for numerous bodily processes, being well-hydrated is crucial for overall health. Dehydration and negative water balance can have a significant impact on health. In this study, Castro-Alija et al. (2023) examined the relationship between anxiety and hydration levels among Spanish college students. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted with 65 female university students. Over 90% of participants exhibited anxiety levels exceeding the 95th percentile. Those with heightened anxiety were more likely to have a negative water balance. Additionally, the intake of beverages like coffee and herbal teas was found to correlate with both state and trait anxiety. [NPID: Anxiety, hydration, students, intake, Spanish]
