Dietary habits and psychological disorders in a large sample of Iranian adults: A population-based study

Since there has already been associations between diet and psychological issues reported, Sangsefidi et al. (2020) decided to investigate the relationship between dietary patterns and psychological issues among a sample of Iranian adults. The data was extracted from the recruitment phase of Yazd Health Study, a population-based cohort research on Iranian adults. After making adjustments for confounders, fast food consumption among the 9965 adults was associated with increased depressive symptoms, while the intake of fried food was also linked with more signs of stress. Other habits like eating breakfast protected people from stress features. Moreover, correlations were found between snacking and higher prevalence of depressive, anxiety, and stress symptoms. As the consumption of sweetened drinks increased, the odds of experiencing depression, anxiety, or stress features dropped.
