Mini-review: Processed red meat intake and risk of neurodegenerative diseases

Neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) are characterized by the progressive loss of neurons in specific areas of the central nervous system. Recent research has increasingly focused on the dietary influences on NDDs, particularly concerning processed red meat, a widely consumed food item. Numerous studies have established a correlation between processed red meat consumption and an elevated risk of cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. However, the specific impact of this meat on NDDs remains ambiguous. This review synthesizes existing literature, concluding that the intake of processed meat may negatively influence the development and progression of neurodegenerative disorders.
