Omega-3 fatty acids in the psychological and physiological resilience against COVID-19

With rising COVID-19 infections to well above 20 million patients and north of 778,000 deaths across the world, a notable rising trend in psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety and depression, was concurrently observed. In tandem with continued research on preventive and therapeutic interventions to combat COVID-19, a renewed spotlight has been shed on strengthening host immunity to stop the clinical progression of COVID-19, and on immunity-boosting nutritional supplements like omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs). n-3 PUFAs have additionally exhibited a significant positive impact on mood disorders, thus, Chang et al. (2020) highlight the necessity to investigate whether n-3 PUFAs could potentially improve both host physical and mental defenses against COVID-19. [NPID: Covid-19, immunomodulation, omega-3]
