An antidepressant is a class of medication primarily prescribed to treat clinical depression, anxiety disorders, and certain chronic pain conditions by balancing neurotransmitters—such as serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine—in the brain to help regulate mood, emotion, and sleep.
