Mediterranean diet adherence and healthy diet indicator might decrease odds of endometriosis

The impact of dietary patterns on endometriosis management

This study explores the impact of dietary patterns on endometriosis management, emphasizing the Mediterranean diet and the Healthy Diet Indicator (HDI) among Iranian women. Conducted in Tehran from February to September 2021, this hospital-based case-control study included women diagnosed with endometriosis and healthy controls. Dietary intake was evaluated through a validated 168-item food frequency questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis revealed that women exhibiting high adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MEDI-Lite score > mean) had 94% lower odds of endometriosis (Odds Ratio (OR) = 0.06; 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.02–0.17; p < 0.001). Additionally, those with elevated HDI scores demonstrated a 95% reduction in odds of endometriosis (adjusted OR = 0.05; 95% CI: 0.02–0.12; p < 0.001). These findings indicate a significant inverse association between endometriosis and adherence to both dietary patterns, suggesting that such dietary interventions may be beneficial in the prevention and management of endometriosis.
