The effectiveness of culinary therapy platform system: a study examining cooking course as a mental health intervention for college students
The effectiveness of culinary therapy platform system:
The World Health Organization has identified that rapid environmental changes and societal pressures contribute to increased psychological distress among college students. Surveys indicate a rise in psychological disorders within this demographic. While colleges have initiated psychological education courses, these often inadequately address students’ emotional needs. This study proposes a practical culinary therapy platform as a solution. Culinary therapy, which integrates cooking with personal and cultural relationships to food, has shown potential in mitigating emotional and psychological issues. By providing engaging cooking classes, the platform aims to enhance students’ mental well-being. A structured culinary therapy platform was developed and evaluated through psychometric testing and qualitative data collection. An experimental session teaching students to prepare ginger milk, a traditional Chinese dessert, demonstrated significant increases in positive emotions and slight reductions in negative emotions. Based on these findings, the effectiveness of culinary therapy platform has been extensively tested in colleges, receiving positive feedback and confirming its efficacy in improving students’ mental health.
