The Children’s Dietary Inflammatory Index (C-DII) is a pediatric adaptation of the Dietary Inflammatory Index that quantifies the overall inflammatory potential of a child’s diet by weighting reported intake of specific dietary components against their empirically established pro- or anti-inflammatory effects on biomarkers such as C-reactive protein, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α.
Higher C-DII values indicate a more pro-inflammatory dietary pattern, and the index is used in pediatric and nutritional psychology research to examine associations between diet-driven inflammation and outcomes such as systemic inflammatory markers, cognitive development, and neurodevelopmental conditions.
