Psychometric Assessment Tools

Evidence-informed definition Updated October 2, 2026 How to cite this entry

Psychometric tools are standardized, research-informed questionnaires, rating scales, inventories, or tests designed to measure psychological constructs—such as mood, stress, beliefs, behaviors, or cognitive abilities—in a structured and interpretable way.

In nutritional psychology, psychonutritional assessment tools are used to examine the psychological, behavioral, and experiential factors that shape food choices, eating patterns, and diet–mental-health relationships. They may support assessment, education, goal setting, progress monitoring, and referral decisions when used within the practitioner’s training, scope of practice, and alongside broader clinical context.
