Ikarian cuisine largely revolves around Mediterranean diet principles (Buettner & Skemp, 2016). The Mediterranean diet is characterized by a high intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, herbs, and olive oil, a moderate intake of fish, poultry, dairy products, and red wine.
